An acoustic guitar trio from NYC whose sound is hard to describe, experimental minimalist space folk comes to mind. They don't use any "drums", but there are percussion sounds made from hitting the strings and wood of the guitars. No effects are used either, but there are some great use of vocals and interesting string scraping sounds that sound like they're coming from an electronic device.

In this world, you can find post-rock, modern classical music, electronica, all presented in a tasteful fashion. Goad gained notoriety with his underground zine ANSWER Me! in the 90's, with subsequent books 'The Redneck Manifesto' and his autobiographical 'Shit Magnet' which he wrote during his 2 year stint in jail for beating up his psychotic stripper girlfriend. On Truck-Drivin' Psycho he performs fourteen country-style trucker songs with band The Horny Lumberjacks, perfect for long late night drives, play loud, drive fast, smoke plenty and you'll be toe-tappin in no time.

6 and 12 String Guitar is the second album by Leo Kottke, a solo instrumental steel-string acoustic guitar album known as the Armadillo album after the animal illustrated in the distinctive cover art. The album showcases hard-driving polyphonic finger-picking style playing that even at the fastest tempos, the notes are clean and crisp. True to its title, the album contains performances on both 6 and 12 String acoustic guitars, some using a slide. Although Kottke has included vocals in other albums, this album is all instrumental — the liner notes contained Kottke's famous apology that his voice "sounds like geese farts on a muggy day."

Recommended by a friend over at CBP, Greg Davis plays everything from guitar to khaen to gongs to synthesizer to pine cones to laptop and more. He primarily works as a solo musician creating a textured drone sound that is very conducive to deep listening and relaxation. Don't put this record on if you want to get fired up, this is minimal ambience for when all you want to do is lie down and get lost in some music.

Adam Freeland - Back to Mine

This compilation is exceptional for a number of reasons. Firstly, Freeland uses all of the components of a brilliant set - moments of euphoria and melancholy, minimalism and lush soundscapes, without dropping in a single dance track. The music is mixed to perfection and the eclectic song choice is structured perfectly.

Freeland plays the set in reverse, with the set dropping in tempo, rather than increasing as is the norm. As a result he's managed to capture the whole essence of the 'Back to Mine' series. As is customary after a big night, the group returns home, puts on some big, bold tunes to continue the euphoria and as the night draws on the tempo decreases. In this context, Freeland has managed to encapsulate a few hours into 70 odd minutes perfectly.

A great band from Sao Paulo, Brazil composed of Lucas de Almeida on guitar and Marcio Barcha on drums, Mateus Perito on guitar and voice and Flávio Fraschetti on bass. Inverness' music can be placed with the psychedelic, shoegaze, post-rock sound of bands like Aspen Woods, MBV and Fly Pan Am. For such a young band they have a hugely impressive ability to create lush soundscapes, highly recommended for all.
